How to Care for Your Skin Before and After Laser Hair Removal

Last updated 6 years ago

Laser hair removal can help you say goodbye to the hassle of razors, waxing, and tweezing. In order to see the best results of the treatment, there are certain habits you should implement both before and after your sessions with the advanced Candela laser. Below are some of the ways that you can enhance the results of this hair removal solution for the smoothest skin possible.

  • Avoid sun exposure: Laser hair removal works by targeting the dark pigment found in hair so that the energy of the light is absorbed and the follicle is destroyed. The greater the contrast between your skin tone and hair color, the more successful the treatment will be. Additionally, sun exposure can irritate the skin after the laser treatment, so a 4-6 week buffer of limited sun on either side of the treatment is recommended.
  • Shave the day prior to treatment: Stay away from tweezing, waxing, or using hair removal creams before laser hair removal. You can maintain the area by shaving, as this will retain a hair follicle beneath the surface of the skin. Be sure to shave the target area just before going in for treatment, ideally the night before, so that there is minimal razor irritation at the time of laser exposure.
  • Use mild, non-abrasive cleansers: The treated area will be somewhat sensitive for the first few days, so avoid irritation by using gentle, non-exfoliating soaps. If you normally wash with a loofah or scrubbing sponge, swap it out for a soft cloth instead.
